Q2 : Does the Drum Reset Chip also reset the TONER level or other counters?

A : No

Some customers may mistakenly believe that the Drum Reset chip can reset all page counters, including toner and rollers, by resetting the entire printer through the drum unit. However, this is not accurate. The drum reset chip is specifically designed to reset the page counter of the drum only. Similarly, the belt reset chip and fuser reset kit are intended to reset the belt counter and fuser counter respectively. If you are in need of a solution to reset the toner counter, drum reset kits are not suitable. We recommend exploring other listings to find the appropriate product for your needs.

Q3 : The manufacturer's user manual shows that I should change the toner cartridge when replacing the drum unit. Do I need to change the toner cartridge when applying the drum counter reset chip?

A : NO (99.9%) & YES (0.1%)

The drum reset chip functions similarly to a new drum unit. When a new drum unit is installed, the manufacturer recommends changing the toner cartridge because the printer's firmware assumes the new drum unit is empty. The printer attempts to transfer toner from the cartridge to the drum unit's toner reservoir and adjusts the toner level accordingly. If the toner level was below 40% before replacing the drum unit, the printer may ask for a new toner cartridge after the replacement.

However, when using the drum reset chip without replacing the drum unit, no actual toner transfer occurs as the drum unit is already filled. Most printers won't require a new cartridge after using the chip, but there is a slight possibility that it may be needed due to the OEM's programmed firmware. To reset the toner warning, you can either use a new toner or a toner chip. So, the answer is mostly NO but in very rare cases YES.

Q5 : Is there anything I should know before purchasing? In which case I should not buy these reset kits?

The part that you intend to reset the counter of must be in good working condition or have been providing good quality prints until it was locked by the counter. If the part has any physical defects, this reset kit will not improve printing defects or quality at all. Our reset kits will remove "replace part",  "error 980" or light or message asking to replace the parts. Q6 : How does it work?

To illustrate the situation more clearly, let's assume that you bought a pair of shoes last year. The manufacturer recommends replacing the shoes after walking 10,000 steps. However, if the climate and road conditions where you use the shoes are very mild, and you never engage in any extreme sports while wearing them, the shoes may still be in good condition. Even if a small area of the sole becomes worn due to contact with rough surfaces, if the shoes are still in good condition, comfortable, and suitable for walking, you can continue using them even after 20,000 or 30,000 steps. The number of steps walked is not the most important factor when considering whether to discard the shoes or not. What truly matters is whether the shoes continue to serve their purpose and meet the expectations of the user. You wouldn't throw them away solely because you reached the recommended step limit of 10,000.

A similar situation occurs when your laser printer requires a new maintenance part such as a drum, fuser, or belt unit. Most of these parts are durable enough to continue working for 2-3 more cycles beyond their specified usage limits. Therefore, they don't need to be replaced if the printing quality was acceptable before the page counter warning appeared.

Approximately 15 years ago, printer users had the option to override the part change warning and reset the message through the printer's maintenance menu. They could also easily replace the counter reset chip, which was exposed on the surface of the parts. Replacement of the entire parts was only necessary when the part was physically broken or when the printing quality became unsatisfactory.

However, many printer manufacturers have implemented page counter systems with zero set technology (counter reset circuits) built-in, making it incredibly difficult for end users to replace the counter circuits due to complex designs that hide the counter circuits inside the intricate parts. Additionally, the page counter reset menus have been removed from the printer's maintenance menu. These significant changes prevent or limit users from reusing parts and force them to replace components after a specific number of pages, regardless of the actual condition of the parts. This practice leads to unnecessary expenses and environmental waste as users are compelled to replace parts, even if they are still functioning well. 

Some users have attempted to reset the counter by opening complex parts, which is time-consuming, difficult, prone to human error, and potentially dangerous. Many people are unaware of the technical specifications of fusible links and often use higher-rated ones, causing fire hazards or risking short-circuit issues that permanently damage their printer.

Q8 : Can I re-use the reset chips/kits?

A : Yes (for Reusable Kits) / NO (for disposable kits)

This limitation is not imposed by us. Our reset circuits function in exactly the same way as the page counter circuits on new drum units, transfer belts, and fuser units. It's important to note that the counter is not saved on the parts themselves, but on the printer motherboard. 

When a new drum, belt, or fuser unit is installed, it contains a special fusible link that generates a "NEW PART" signal upon the first installation. Once this signal is detected, the printer motherboard resets the relevant counter in its counter systems and cuts the fusible link on the part to prevent the same parts resetting counter on another printer. As a result, the new part will no longer be able to generate the "NEW PART" signal. This is why nearly new parts, even if they have only been used for one page on another machine, cannot reset the page counter on a different machine.

Similarly, when our reset chip is detected by your printer motherboard, ther printer resets the relevant counter and cuts the fusible link on our reset product, rendering it unusable for future resets.

We also offer reusable reset chips/kits that require a disposable reset fuse cartridge for each reset performed.

Q9 : When do I actually need to replace the parts? How many cycles can I re-use the parts? 

A : There is no strict guide line for this. If the quality is acceptable, you can keep using the same parts.

Determining if a part is worn out is simple which can be done by evaluating the printing quality. If the printing quality meets your needs and remains acceptable, there is no immediate need to replace the parts. As the parts wear out, the printing quality gradually decreases. If the printing quality becomes unacceptable to you, that is when you would need to consider replacing the parts. The number of cycles you can reuse the parts depends on your printing quality requirements. If you require clean and sharp prints without any defects, reusing the parts for 2-3 cycles may be suitable. However, if you are content with some printing defects, you may not need to replace the parts until the issues become more severe, which could be 6-8 cycles later. In our test environments, we have seen parts work well for 4-5 cycles without any issues. So, reusing the same parts for 2-3 cycles is generally acceptable for most cases and more cycles if super clean/sharp prints are not a requirement.

It's important to note that using printer parts beyond the manufacturer's stated lifespan does not pose any safety issues. Similar to lawnmower blades, which are replaced when functionality or safety concerns arise, laser printer parts such as drum units, transfer belts, and fuser units will eventually wear out and need replacement. However, unlike lawnmower blades, there are no safety implications when using laser printer parts beyond their specified lifespan. Therefore, parts must be replaced if there are significant functionality issues. Otherwise, it is users choice. 

Please remember that each time you reset the remaining life of the parts, you will need a new reset kit if you purchased a disposable version or a disposable fuse cartridge if you opted for a reusable version, both of which are available from us.

Q10 : When I get a printing quality issue, how do I know which part causes the issue?

If you are technically inclined, you can download the service manual for your printer model and search for "periodical marks" to identify the culprits based on the distance between the marks. 

If you are not familiar with technical details, don't worry. We are here to assist you. Simply send us several clear and focused photos of the printed pages showing the printing defects. Typically, you will notice periodical marks consistently appearing in the same vertically location on all pages. 

To help us identify the issue, place a ruler next to the paper in the photos so we can determine the radius/diameter of the culprit(s). Laser printer parts have unique diameters/radii on their rotational components, making it easier to pinpoint the problem. With your photos, we can determine the source of the problem and provide guidance to save your time, money, and contribute to a sustainable approach.

It's important to note that if the part is physically broken, our page counter reset kits will not fix the issue. In such cases, you will need to replace the broken part.

For end-users, it's important to note that our reset kits are intended for one-time use and are not reusable. Additionally, our reusable kits require a disposable fuse cartridge for each reset. Therefore, if your main goal is cost-saving, it may be more beneficial to wait until the printer prompts you to replace the parts before using our reset kits.

However, if you are a printer seller or maintenance engineer and need to reset the counters before selling the machine or visiting the site next time, our product can be used to reset the remaining life back to full without waiting for the warning message to appear.

Q13 : How many pages will our product work for? ONE MORE CYCLE per kit.

Q14 : My printer model number has different suffix which is not specified here. Will it work on my printer?

If the manufacturer and model number are listed, our reset kit will work on your printer model. Please disregard any suffixes or additional options mentioned in the eBay listing title, as they do not affect the compatibility of our reset kit. The main components such as the drum unit, belt, and fuser units are the same for printers with the same model number, even if they have different suffixes or options.
