• Beschreibung: Das Doppelporträt von Lucas und Cornelis de Wael zeigt die beiden Maler als Kniestück. Lucas de Wael hat im Vordergrund auf einem Stuhl platzgenommen und ist dem Betrachter zugewandt. Er trägt sein Haar kurz sowie einen Schnurr- und Kinnbart. Sein Wams ist aus Seide mit Spitzenkragen und Spitzbart, trägt ein Wams aus Seide mit Ärmelaufschlägen und Kragen aus Spitze. Über seiner rechten Schulter ist ein Mantel drapiert. Schräg hinter ihm steht sein Bruder, der Maler Cornelis de Wael. Er blickt zum rechten Bildrand und trägt sein Haar etwas länger als der Bruder. Auch er trägt seinen Mantel über der rechten Schulter. Darunter ist er mit einem gemusterten und geknöpften Seidenwams bekleidet.

• Zustand: Guter Zustand. Das Blatt ist staub-, finger- und stockfleckig. Insbesondere der Blattrand ist verfärbt. Das Blatt wurde ca. 0,5 cm vom Plattenrand beschnitten. Es zeigen sich altersgerechte Abnutzungs- und Kratzspuren, vor allem im Beschriftungsbereich.

• Description: The double portrait of Lucas and Cornelis de Wael shows the two painters as kneelers. Lucas de Wael has taken a seat on a chair in the foreground and is facing the viewer. He wears his hair short and has a moustache and chin beard. His doublet is of silk with lace collar and goatee, wearing a doublet of silk with cuffs and collar of lace. A cloak is draped over his right shoulder. Standing diagonally behind him is his brother, the painter Cornelis de Wael. He is looking towards the right edge of the picture and wears his hair a little longer than his brother. He also wears his coat over his right shoulder. Underneath he is dressed in a patterned and buttoned silk doublet.

• Condition: Good condition. The sheet is dust-, finger- and foxstained. Especially the margin is discoloured. The sheet has been trimmed approx. 0.5 cm from the platemark. There are signs of wear and scratches due to its age, especially in the inscription area.
