I have listed for your perusal a quite rare Mid to Late 18th Century Engraved and Copper Inlaid Indian Heavy Cast Bell Bronze Panchamrut Ritual Jar (Holy water Vessel) with Pooja Spoon.

From the coastal region of Southern India c1750-1800. The Very heavy Bronze vessel is profusely engraved with Fish & Floral Arches and inlaid with copper in the style of the Ganga Jamuna technique (meaning two tone colour).

These Holy Water Ritual Jars were used by the Temple Monks as a way of calling devotees to attend the temple for prayer (Like Church Bells), by tapping the pooja spoon from side to side on the inside of the jar like a bell. On arrival devotees would be sprinkled and flicked with the Holy Water using the spoon. It would also be used within the temple as a meditation bell.

A wonderful quality Antique and a great survivor,  from continental Southern India of the late 18th and Early 19th century.

The postage cost listed is for UK Buyer Only
