As part of Orbital Surplus' replica line:

We offer an extremely accurate high quality replica of the Apollo Contingency Sampling Tool.
Flown on Apollo missions 11, 12, 14 & 15, this tool was carried, collapsed, in the leg pocket of the spacesuit. This was in case the Lunar tool storage (MESA) on the Lunar Module couldn't be accessed.  Since the pressurized spacesuit were so stiff, it was impossible for the astronauts to bend down and pick up items off the Lunar surface, so without some type of "back up" tool, in the case of the MESA not opening, or needing to return immediately, the astronauts would be unable to pick up Lunar samples.

The tool, made in 5 segments, has a Nylon cord running down it's length. When the tool is taken from the spacesuit pocket, the handle is held and the remaining 4 segment dropped, when the cord is pulled tight, ABS plastic "bullet" shaped ends, align and set into each adjoining segment end. Then the Nylon cord is pulled tight, and wedged into a slot at the back of the handle, securing the segments into a rigid pole.

This tool was made famous, by Apollo 14 Commander, Allan Shepard, who secretly brought with him a Wilson 9 iron golf club head. The head had been modified to fit into the samplers end, replacing the hoop and fabric sample bag. He reportedly hit two golf balls on the Lunar surface, stating the ball went “Miles and miles and miles”. (We will be offering a correct 9 iron head, correctly modified to fit into this sample tool)

Machined in Anodized Aluminum, ABS, Stainless Steel, this is a museum quality, working copy, of the Apollo lunar surface tool.
(See last image above of an original Sample Tool on display in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, Washington DC.)

Here at Orbital Surplus, we collect odds and ends from anywhere in the galaxy. So depending on what empire has collapsed, space freighter has crashed or Transport "got lost", we never know what we will receive next. However, we have lost our lease on the asteroid we have called home for more than 30 solar cycles and have to move. So we are finding stuff we forgot we had, and this is where you luck out, cause it all has to go!
