..… Antique / vintage, all original ……… large format, hardcover book … published circa 1911 ……… German language ……. RARE, super scarce ……… this could be called a ‘mechanical engineering reference picture book’ …. COMPRISED of little text but instead, large COLOR LITHO – die-cut overlay cut-aways – of historically noteworthy modern-age MACHINES of that era ………. a celebration of modern machine engineering …….........…..

............ includes the Farman Biplane No. 1 .............. a Panhard auto ........... a superheated variant Locomotive .... the Babcock & Wilcox boiler - a company still in business today ............

.… …… undated, but certainly circa 1911 because of the inventions shown here – most recent is 1911 …….. SCARCE edition – possibly a FIRST edition ……… because it features the ‘FARMAN Biplane No. 1’ ……. ….. published in Berlin … by C. A. Weller… ……….. complete, clean, tight and flat ………….. high grade ……….. FINE / FINE+ …………. 7 different machines ………..........…..

.… ……. the ‘MODELL-ATLAS’ ….. (model atlas) ………. DIE PRAXIS DES MODERNEN MASCHINENBAUES …… (The Practice of Modern Mechanical Engineering) …………. measures 13 x 9 x 1 inches ………. 7 pages of cardstock inside … but pages include inner cover boards …. so, total number of pages is 14 + 2 = 16 pages of diagram cut-away overlays ………. .........…..

.… …………. SEVEN machines in total ……… these are some notable inventions, more details below on why these machines were special …. there are other books like this from Weller, but I’d say this is one of the better in terms of content ............…..

.… ………… AS SAID ………. each litho diagram .. consists of MULTIPLE OVERLAYS …. EACH with a hinge ……. some of these have 5, 6, 7 LAYERS of overlays …….. so these are fragile and take care …. but amazing in detail, and even in trying to find the overlays, often like a puzzle ……. wicked …….. I used a bamboo shish kabob stick to turn overlays ………..........…..

.… ……….. HIGH GRADE …….. basically really clean, no bad stains …. intact, nothing loose … Cover hinges solid, as well as inside ....... covers basically flat ...... inner panels all flat .... light cover wear, basically all nice ............. INSIDE ...............….. no damage …. TWO small hinge repairs – VERY OLD ! ……. not even sure what paper they used, some extinct brown paper ………. SEE pics …….. on the Locomotive, rear wheel area, and front wheel area …….. solid, neat, and not real obvious ………….. OTHERWISE, no repairs ……. and I saw ONE TINY hinge starting to pull on its bottom, BUT still solidly attached …….. MINOR ………..........…..

.… …….. only other notable…….. SPINE is drying out … so SLIGHTLY ‘loose’ ……… but spine is solid as in ALL is attached solidly …. ................... ALL THIS is minor stuff …………. this is a lovely, high grade 120 year old art work ………. .........…..

.… INCLUDES the following machines …
1. …. the Henri FARMAN n°1 biplane .. in German, translates as ‘hang glider’
2. … the PANHARD Automobile …..
3. … the 3/5 Coupled HOT STEAM train LOCOMOTIVE of the Royal Prussian State Railways with the Schmidt Superheaters – 10 wheel …. 4-6-0 …. .............. no brand name but looks very much like a ... Bavarian S 3/5 NDRG Class 17.4 Superheated steam variant …………
4. … the BABCOCK & WILCOX PATENT WATER-PIPE STEAM BOILER

... MORE BACKGROUND ……...
The 1907 Voisin biplane (designated the Voisin II by the 1913 edition of Jane's All the World's Aircraft), was Europe's first successful powered aircraft, designed by aeronautical engineer and manufacturer Gabriel Voisin. It was used by the French aviator Henri Farman to make the first heavier-than-air flight lasting more than a minute in Europe, and also to make the first full circle. The first examples of the aircraft were known by the name of their owners, for instance the Delagrange I, or the Henri Farman n°1 Farman made many modifications to his aircraft, and these were incorporated into later production aircraft built by Voisin. The type enjoyed widespread success, and around sixty were built. ……………………………… After the break in his association with Voisin in early 1909, Henry Farman started aircraft construction for himself, in collaboration with his brother Maurice and built the Farman III or F-3, which used wheels instead of skids and was the first aeroplane in the pioneering age to have fully effective ailerons, endowing the aircraft with exceptional flight stability. .…

... Panhard was originally called Panhard et Levassor, and was established as an automobile manufacturing concern by René Panhard, Émile Levassor, and Belgian lawyer Edouard Sarazin in 1887. Panhard was a French motor vehicle manufacturer that began as one of the first makers of automobiles. It was a manufacturer of light tactical and military vehicles….. Its final incarnation, now owned by Renault Trucks Defense, it was formed by the acquisition of Panhard by Auverland in 2005, and then by Renault in 2012. In 2018 Renault Trucks Defense, ACMAT and Panhard combined under a single brand, Arquus. .…

... For the 1906 Bavarian State Exibition in Nuremberg, Maffei fitted locomotive No. 3329 experimentally with a Schmidt superheater. … for example, the Bavarian S 3/5 NDRG Class 17.4 Superheated steam variant .…

... When Stephen Wilcox first avowed that “there must be a better way” to safely generate power, he and George Babcock responded with the design for the first inherently safe water-tube boiler, and the company was born. The company was founded in 1867 in Providence, Rhode Island and among many notable successes, it manufactured boilers to power New York City's first subway in 1902 ……….. Babcock & Wilcox is still an active business today …. ................…..

........REGARDING FEEDBACK:

…..…....… I always leave Positive feedback soon after the sale ……… A positive response from you later on would be nice…… that’s your choice. I do want to say that IF something goes wrong, if I have made a mistake of some kind, we both should agree, as buyer and seller, to solve the problem like civilized people. Negative feedback should not be used as a ‘first response’ to a mistake…….... I mean, after all, I am only human…

..

….. ALSO – The Ebay Feedback system is not ACCURATE … For a better reflection of my selling reputation……. go to one of my listings……

.. … then, in the top right area, under ‘Seller Information’, you will see 'See other items’. Click on that. You will see any items I am selling.

.. Now, go to the left margin, scroll down, then click on 'SOLD LISTINGS'.........… You will now see all the things I’ve sold recently, all without a complaint.

.. eBay’s FEEDBACK in not accurate because most Buyers don’t leave Feedback. Why? I don’t know. But it’s a fact. Look in Ebay ‘Community’; many other Sellers say the same thing.

……PERSONALLY – ………………. .........I've been an eBay seller for a long time. And I'm a good one. I have a large degree of integrity and do my utmost to ensure a fair and happy transaction. I've also bought a lot things on eBay so I know the value of a problem-free purchase. So, please, trust me; I'm doing my best for both of us. Nobody wants hassles. .. ..

........................ ....................

........................... REFUNDS: .. If it is an obvious mistake on my part, full or partial refunds are given. Shipping refunds are dependent on the mistake. In certain refund situations WHEN I need the item shipped back to me – which has never happened but just in case – if it is clearly my mistake, THEN return shipping could be reimbursed / paid by myself... But again, in all my years, I've never had to resort to this or anything even vaguely similar.
