• Bezeichnung: Unterhalb in der Druckplatte vom Künstler bezeichnet: "Adler Mesnard d'après Close", wohl frühe Bezeichnung vor der endgültigen Schrift.

   

  Wunderschöne Ansicht aus der vierzehnteiligen Serie der Ansichten von Griechenland und Italien, die Eugène Adler-Mesnard nach Vorbildern Wilhelm Kloses radiert hat und die 1880 im Kaeser Verlag erschienen ist. Die Veduten klassisch-antiker Stätten in Griechenland und Italien wurden als Wandgemälde in der Villa Klose in Karlsruhe ausgeführt und zeigen bemerkenswerte Altertümer und Bauwerke des Mittelmeerraumes in ihrer charakteristischen landschaftlichen Umgebung. In zumeist menschenleeren, kargen Felslandschaften inszenieren sich die imposanten Bauten zu unvergänglichen Kulturdenkmälern beinahe zeitloser Historizität.

   

  Nahe bei Syrakus auf Sizilien befinden sich die Latomien, die bereits seit früher Zeit als Steinbruch verwendet wurden. Tiefe Schluchten im Fels zeigen ausgehöhltes Gestein, wo das Baumaterial für den Bau der nahegelegenen Stadt gewonnen wurde.

• Zustand: Guter Zustand. Auf dem gesamten Blatt sind Stockflecken sichtbar. Entlang der unteren Blattkante befindet sich ein großflächiger Flüssigkeitsfleck. Entlang der Kanten und in den Blattecken leicht bestoßen. Die Darstellung macht einen sehr guten und frischen Eindruck.

  Beautiful view from the fourteen-part series of Views of Greece and Italy, which Eugène Adler-Mesnard etched after models by Wilhelm Klose and which was published by Kaeser Verlag in 1880. The vedute of classical-antique sites in Greece and Italy were executed as wall paintings in the Villa Klose in Karlsruhe and show remarkable antiquities and buildings of the Mediterranean region in their characteristic scenic surroundings. In mostly deserted, barren rocky landscapes, the imposing buildings are staged as immortal cultural monuments of almost timeless historicity.

   

  Near Syracuse in Sicily is home to the Latomias, which have been used as quarries since ancient times. Deep gorges in the rock reveal hollowed-out rock where the building material for the construction of the nearby city was extracted.

• Condition: Good condition. Foxing is visible on the entire sheet. There is a large liquid stain along the lower edge of the sheet. Slightly bumped along the edges and in the corners of the sheet. The image makes a very good and fresh impression.
