  • Beschreibung: Verso bezeichnet von fremder Hand mit den Lebensdaten des Künstlers und betitelt "Eroberung von Gent". Der Wiener Maler Carl Rahl besuchte die Akademie in Wien, woraufhin er nach München, Stuttgart, Ungarn und 1836 nach Italien ging, um dort nach den Vertretern der römischen Schule zu studieren. So bildete sich schließlich sein zugleich auf Größe der Auffassung und koloristische Reize gegründeter Stil; Reisen nach Paris, Schweden und Norwegen, bevor er in München ansässig wurde; Bekanntschaft mit Heinrich Heine und Anselm Feuerbach; 1850 Berufung als Professor an die Wiener Kunstakademie. Er ruht auf dem Wiener Zentralfriedhof, in Wien-Mariahilf wurde die Rahlgasse nach ihm benannt sowie die benachbarte Rahlstiege.

  • Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Die Darstellung macht einen sehr guten Eindruck. Blatt von hervorragender Druckqualität. Mit Randläsuren und verso geklebten Randeinrissen; ein langer vertikaler Einriss oben links der Mitte wurde verso fixiert, Blattecke oben rechts mit kleiner Fehlstelle; Papier stellenweise berieben, links oben im Bereich des Himmels mit Kratzspur; das Blatt ist in den Rändern stellenweise knickspurig; unten mittig mit vertikaler Knickspur.

  • Description: Inscribed with the artist's biographical data and titled "Eroberung von Gent" in an unknown hand on the verso. The Viennese painter Carl Rahl attended the Academy in Vienna, after which he travelled to Munich, Stuttgart, Hungary and, in 1836, to Italy, where he studied under the representatives of the Roman school. This led to the development of his style, which was based on both greatness of conception and colouristic charm; travels to Paris, Sweden and Norway before settling in Munich; acquaintance with Heinrich Heine and Anselm Feuerbach; appointment as professor at the Vienna Academy of Art in 1850. He is buried in Vienna's Central Cemetery; Rahlgasse in Vienna-Mariahilf and the neighbouring Rahlstiege were named after him.

  • Condition: Very good condition. The image makes a very good impression. Sheet of excellent print quality. With marginal tears and marginal tears glued to the verso; a long vertical tear in the upper left of the centre has been fixed to the verso, small loss in the upper right corner of the sheet; paper rubbed in places, with a scratch mark in the upper left in the area of the sky; the sheet is creased in places in the margins; with a vertical crease in the lower centre.
