  • Technik: Aquarellierte Federzeichnung auf Büttenpapier, montiert auf Papier

  • Bezeichnung: Oben mittig durch den Titel (lateinischer Name für Januar) beschnitten: "IANUARIUS 1.". Das Künstler-Monogramm "JA" aus dem Originaldruck wurde in der Zeichnung übernommen und befindet sich auf dem Stein rechts zu Füßen des Dargestellten. Der Schweizer Zeichner, Kupferätzer und -stecher, Formschneider und Maler kam 1561 nach Nürnberg, um mit Virgil Solis zusammenzuarbeiten. Er schuf Illustrationen zur Bibel, zu Ausgaben antiker und zeitgenössischer Autoren und zu Sachbüchern verschiedenster Bereiche, unter anderem zu religiösen und historischen Themen, zu juristischen Themen wie dem Jagd- und Forstrecht, zum Ackerbau und zur Jagdkunst. Seine Holzschnitte zeichnen sich durch die elegante, etwas manierierte Schlankheit der Figuren aus, wie sie auch die vorliegende Zeichnung präsentiert.

  • Beschreibung: Sehr reizvolle Zeichnung nach Jost Ammans (1539-1591) gleichnamiger Radierung aus dem Jahr 1588, Verleger: Stephan Hermann. Die Darstellung zeigt einen alten Mann mit Kelch und Brotlaib am Lagerfeuer (Signalfeuer).

  • Zustand: Guter Zustand. Die Darstellung macht einen sehr guten Eindruck. Das Blatt hat sich altersbedingt verfärbt und ist stockfleckig, stellenweise sind Verschmutzungen festzustellen, oben durch die Bezeichnung beschnitten.

  • Technique: Watercolored Pen drawing on Laid paper, mounted on Paper

  • Inscription: Trimmed at the top centre by the title (Latin name for January): "IANUARIUS 1.". The artist's monogram "JA" from the original print has been adopted in the drawing and is located on the stone on the right at the sitter's feet. The Swiss draughtsman, copperplate etcher and engraver, mould cutter and painter came to Nuremberg in 1561 to work with Virgil Solis. He created illustrations for the Bible, editions of ancient and contemporary authors and non-fiction books on a wide range of subjects, including religious and historical themes, legal topics such as hunting and forestry law, agriculture and the art of hunting. His woodcuts are characterised by the elegant, somewhat mannered slenderness of the figures, as presented in the present drawing.

  • Condition: Good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet has discoloured due to its age and is foxed, soiling in places, trimmed at the top by the inscription.
