  • Beschreibung: Schöne Naturskizze auf einem felsigen Hochplateau in der Schweiz. Unten rechts datiert: "Seewen im Oktober 1844". Verso zarte Skizze des selben Motivs. Ihre Ausbildung zur Künstlerin bei einigen der namhaftesten Künstlern ihrer Zeit, Karl Rottmann, Christian Morgenstern und Albrecht Adam, verdankte Therese Weber der Förderung ihres Onkels General Freiherr von Weber. Nach dem Tod ihres Vaters nahm dieser Therese bei sich auf und erkannte das Talent und die Neigung des Mädchens. Die Künstlerin bildete sich auf dem Gebiet der Landschaftsmalerei und Tiermalerei und beschäftigte sich mit modernen Sprachen sowie mit Geschichte und Literatur. Bei zahlreichen Reisen ins Elsass, nach Lothringen und ins Bayerische Inntal zeichnete und malte sie die Natur. Bei einer Reise an den Tegernsee lernte sie den Botaniker August Max Einsele kennen, der sie zur akkuraten Zeichnung der Pflanzenwelt und zur Erstellung eines malerischen Herbariums inspirierte. Therese Weber brillierte als Pflanzenmalerin und veröffentlichte etliche Sammelwerke zur heimischen Flora, besonders der Alpenländer. Die Studien nutze sie zudem selbst zur Dekoration von Fächern. Auch im späteren Leben begab die Künstlerin sich häufig auf Reisen, bei denen sie von einer adoptierten Waise begleitet wurde. Sie bereiste Italien, Frankreich und die Schweiz und nahm am gesellschaftlichen Leben teil. Im Alter von 62 Jahren erlag sie der Diphterie und verstarb am 30. Links unten befindet sich ein restaurierter Randeinriss. Entlang der unteren Blattkante mehrfach kurz eingerissen. Entlang der Kanten unbeschnitten und stellenweise bestoßen. Brauner Kleberest(?) oben links. Mittig schwach knittrig.

  • Description: Beautiful nature sketch on a rocky high plateau in Switzerland. Dated lower right: "Seewen im Oktober 1844". Delicate sketch of the same motif on the verso. Therese Weber owed her training as an artist to some of the most renowned artists of her time, Karl Rottmann, Christian Morgenstern and Albrecht Adam, to the encouragement of her uncle General Freiherr von Weber. After the death of her father, he took Therese in and recognised the girl's talent and inclination. The artist trained in landscape and animal painting and studied modern languages, history and literature. She sketched and painted nature on numerous trips to Alsace, Lorraine and the Bavarian Inn Valley. During a trip to Lake Tegernsee, she met the botanist August Max Einsele, who inspired her to make accurate drawings of the plant world and to create a picturesque herbarium. Therese Weber excelled as a plant painter and published several collected works on local flora, especially of the Alpine countries. She also used the studies herself to decorate fans. In later life, the artist also travelled frequently, accompanied by an adopted orphan. She travelled to Italy, France and Switzerland and took part in social life. She succumbed to diphtheria at the age of 62 and died on 30 December 1875.| Watermark: "J Wha[tman]"

  • Condition: Good condition. The paper is discoloured due to age. The sheet is foxed on all sides. Occasional bumping along the sheet edges. There is a restored marginal tear in the lower left. Several short tears along the lower edge of the sheet. Untrimmed along the edges and bumped in places. Brown adhesive residue(?) upper left. Faint creasing in the centre.
