Il Giubbotto di Indiana Jones o Henry Walton Jones Junior (il soprannome di “Indiana” deriva dal nome del cane che aveva quando era ragazzino) si ispira alle giacche di pelle del 1930 che hanno preceduto l’avvento della A-2 indossata nella seconda guerra mondiale dai piloti americani di aerei da caccia e bombardieri.
Indiana Jones non fu il primo famoso avventuriero ad indossare una giacca di pelle e una fedora (borsalino) simile: già Alan Ladd in Cina (1943) vestì con capi d’abbigliamento simili, così come Charlton Heston nel celebre Il Segreto degli Incas (1954).
Tuttavia, a dimostrazione dell’importanza degli accessori, fu il giubbotto di Indiana Jones a vestire per sempre il più affascinante e avventuroso eroe di tutti i tempi. La giacca, disegnata da Deborah Nadoolman fu prodotta da Peter Botwright (proprietario e artigiano della Wested Leather a Londra).
Deborah Nadoolman ha sostenuto di aver ottenuto il tipico effetto invecchiato e “vissuto” della giacca, (durante le riprese a Rochelle, in Francia), trattando personalmente il capo con una spazzola metallica e con la lama del coltello di Harrison Ford.
La storica giacca di Indiana Jones (oggi conservata al National Museum of American History) è stata realizzata con morbida pelle di agnello (sebbene nei film successivi è stata riprodotta in pelle di mucca e con delle piccole variazioni nel modello). La giacca è stata disegnata in modo da adattarsi spalle larghe e alla vita stretta di Ford, con una sola fibbia in ottone anticato per le cinghie laterali. In Indiana Jones e l’ultima crociata è stata aggiunta un bottone pressione alla patta antivento della giacca, rendendola così più simile al modello della giacca A-2.

The Indiana Jones or Henry Walton Jones Junior jacket (the nickname 'Indiana' comes from the name of the dog he had when he was a boy) is inspired by the 1930s leather jackets that preceded the advent of the A-2 worn in World War II by American fighter and bomber pilots.
Indiana Jones was not the first famous adventurer to wear a similar leather jacket and fedora (fedora): already Alan Ladd in China (1943) wore similar clothing, as did Charlton Heston in the famous The Secret of the Incas (1954).
However, demonstrating the importance of accessories, it was Indiana Jones' jacket that forever dressed the most charming and adventurous hero of all time. The jacket, designed by Deborah Nadoolman was manufactured by Peter Botwright (owner and craftsman of Wested Leather in London).
Deborah Nadoolman claimed to have achieved the jacket's typical aged and 'worn' effect (during filming in Rochelle, France) by personally treating the garment with a wire brush and the blade of Harrison Ford's knife.
Indiana Jones' historic jacket (now in the National Museum of American History) was made from soft lambskin (although in later films it was reproduced in cowhide and with slight variations in the pattern). The jacket was designed to fit Ford's broad shoulders and narrow waist, with a single antique brass buckle for the side straps. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, a snap button was added to the windproof flap of the jacket, making it more similar to the A-2 jacket model.
