'How I Wrote Diamonds Are Forever' in the Daily Express. 11th April 1956

Author: FLEMING, Ian Lancaster (1908-1964)
Title: 'How I Wrote Diamonds Are Forever' in the Daily Express. 11th April 1956
Publication: London: Express Newspapers [1956]

Description: [Journalism] Folio newspaper. Bibliographer's copy. Some browning as expected to cheap newsprint paper stock, some brittle areas, minor chips, archival repair strip along fold. A very good copy of a scarce item. Apart from the publisher's file copy (Cape also retained the typescript), this is the first issue we have been able to offer. Contains Ian Fleming's article describing how he came to write thrillers, preceding the serialization of the novel in the Express the following day. This is his very first article for the paper which would bring James Bond to a vast daily audience, via its serial appearances and comic strip adaptations. From the comprehensive bibliographical archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership within). His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography.
