Vintage Sansui Solid State 300 Receiver (Amplifier) Hifi Separate + Phono Input.

A very nice vintage receiver with the build and sound quality you would expect from Sansui.

At the time of listing all buttons, switches, sockets and dials have been serviced with contact cleaner to ensure smooth and accurate operation, this also removes any static/crackling when adjusting the controls. The unit has been cleaned inside and out. All capacitors have been inspected for any leaking/bulging or failures.

The Good:

The unit has been fully function tested and is working perfectly on, AM/FM, AUX and PHONO. Output is working perfectly on both headphones and speakers.

The Bad:

The toggle Selector for "Mono/Stereo" is not operational, the toggle moves freely but is not connected with the inner circuit so the unit is always in stereo mode, but the toggle moves with no mechanical resistance so drops to the lower positioning (as if it was in the Mono positioning as you look at it from the front panel).

The toggle Selector for "Tape" is not operational (Record Output is working perfectly as the signal path to the recording output does not pass through the switch).

The Ugly:

The unit has a few scratches, scuffs and marks but nothing too major. The Tuner section has a meter to display the signal strength and an indicator light "FM Stereo" when initially powered on from cold the "FM tuning indicator only goes up to about 1 and the Stereo" light does not illuminate, however after the unit warms up (about 45mins or so) both work perfectly. As this unit was designed in the 1960's it was quite common for devices to take a while to reach normal operating temperature and optimum performance, so this may not be a fault, but simply a casual reminder of a time where the world was not always in a tremendous rush.

The tuner unit is backlit the bulb at the right side of the unit is not working, however it is simply done by opening the unit by removing the two screws on the base, unscrewing the old bulb and replacing it with a new one. I would have done this when the unit was open, but I did not have the correct size of bulb to hand. As all the other bulbs are fine this is not too noticeable when in use and the tuning display is easily visible/readable without this bulb.
