Sage The Smoking Gun Handheld Food Smoker BSM600SIL

If you’re a fan of Masterchef or other gourmet TV programmes, you’re bound to have seen the results of cold smoking – but did you know that cold-smoking doesn’t affect the texture of the food? It simply makes your food (or even drinks) taste delicious. The Smoking Gun from Sage by Heston makes cold smoking food, drinks and sauce in your own kitchen quick and easy.

With its durable but lightweight construction, the Smoking Gun is an easy-to-use hand-held device which lets you impart a rich, smoky flavour on your favourite cheeses, sauces or drinks. After carefully adding and igniting your wood chips to the burn chamber, press the button on the back of the gun and place the integrated silicone tube into a sealed container. Once its full, just leave for a few minutes for the smoke to work its magic.

How It Works

The Smoking Gun comprises a die-cast, hand-held smoker with a stable, integrated stand and a flexible silicone tube that allows you to direct the smoke exactly where it’s needed.

It has a 2-speed fan to draw air through your choice of smoking material allowing for either a gentle or more intense flavour. The burn chamber can be removed once cool to tap out any ash and, if you wish, can be popped into the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

What Can You Smoke?

Working on everything from cheese, salads and butter, to shellfish, meats, sauces and martinis, you can cold smoke almost anything with the Smoking Gun. You don’t even have to use woodchips, it works just as well with tea leaves, spices and edible flowers, so experiment with enhancing flavours to your hearts content.

You don’t need any other special equipment. Whether it’s the domed lid of a cheese board, a small glass with some cling-film over the top, a blender, or a cocktail shaker, as long as it keeps the smoke inside it will work just fine.

If you’re using a small glass, with some barbecue sauce in, for example, just give the sauce a quick swill after you’ve filled it with smoke to ensure maximum contact between the food and the smoke. A blender will help impart the flavour by constantly moving the food and the smoke into contact with one another. Leave it a few minutes and then get ready to taste a rich, smoky flavour which takes your sauces, dips or cheeses to another level.

Add Theatre to Cocktails

The Smoking Gun from Sage also brings added theatre to your drinks and cocktail presentation. After adding your ingredients to the shaker, fill with smoke and shake as normal. Leave for a couple of minutes, and not only will your drink have that distinctive smoky flavour, long, elegant wispy strands of smoke will float up as you pour your drink into the glass.

There are recipe cards included in the box, if you want something tried, tested and guaranteed to be tasty before you branch out on your own experiments, and Sage have also included pots of hickory and Applewood chips. The Smoking Gun is battery powered, and comes with four AA batteries to get you started.
