I have listed for your perusal a really good pair of early Coalport/Coalbrookdale "John Rose Design" Beau Companion Figurines c1825-30. More commonly known as the "The Gardner's"

These figures were produced by the Coalport/Coalbrookdale factory, Shropshire which was set up and founded by John Rose in 1795. As English produced porcelain figurines go, these early Coalport/Coalbrookdale figures simply because of their outstanding quality on every level rivalled that were being produced at the Meissen or any other German Factories at the time, the Coalbrookdale Company Factory not very far from the Coalport Factory the other-side of the Coalport canal from the Coalport factory was established the very year in time in 1795, they too were producing extra fine porcelain mainly because of the moulds and skilled workers who came to them and Coalport from the Nantgarw & Swansea porcelain factories of which John Rose had purchased in 1819.

It is possible that the subject of this pair of figurines were a one-off design conceived from the mind of John Rose himself, to celebrate the up and coming marriage of one of Britons most influential Society Landscape Gardener's at the time, John Claudius Loudon to the very early science fiction writer and Author of the "Mummy"A Tale of the Twenty-Second Century, c1827. Miss Jane Wells Webb, which took place in London in 1830.

The colourful, vibrant and intricate hand painted decoration on both figures from top to bottom is simply outstanding and would rival the best in the world (Please see all pictures listed)

Condition & Dimensions

As with any early 19th century porcelain figures of this genre, there are always minute nicks and chips to consider, but over all this pair of figures have survived very well with no major losses or restoration. Please all pictures listed as they go a long way towards the items complete description.

They stand 19.8cm/7.3/4" High x 8.2cm/3.1/4" Wide
and 18.4cm/7.1/4" x 8.5cm/3.3/8" Wide

Please note that I have personally stepped back from cleaning these figurines of the dust and surface grime which has built up over the years even though they were cabinet pieces. Ideally they could do with a sympathetic bath in warm soapy water to bring more of that original colour out. But honestly I don't trust myself to do it without consequence.

Both the figurines will be subject to the best of packing and will be double boxed prior to dispatch. Customer is welcome to collect if preferred.

The postage cost listed is for UK Buyer Only
