Puccini Turandot B.Nilsson F.Corelli R.Scotto 2 SACD Hybrid TOWER RECORDS JAPAN

Product introduction

A project commemorating the 100th anniversary of Nilsson's birth. Reprinted with bilingual translation of the old EMI edition, famous as the strongest recording of "Turandot" in history. World's first SACD!

As part of a project to commemorate Nilsson's 100th birthday, we have reprinted all of Nilsson's 18th songs,  "Turandot,'' with bilingual translation. You can enjoy the masterpiece, which can be said to be the strongest recording of "Turandot" in history, in its entirety on SACD. The wonderful voices of Corelli and Scott in their heyday are also recorded with a natural sound, and this masterpiece of the former EMI, which is an exemplary recording of opera, is a suitable sound source to be made into an SACD in this anniversary year. For this reprint, we used masters digitized at 96kHz/24bit from the original masters in Japan, and newly mastered the SACD and CD layers separately. This is a permanent preservation record.

There are many Wagner recordings of Nilsson, and his unique voice can still be heard on many masterpieces, including Tristan and Ring. On the other hand, it may not be well known today that he was also active in Italian opera at the time. Nilsson himself famously said,  "Isolde made me famous, Turandot made me rich,'' and at opera houses around the world, when you mentioned  "Turandot,'' it was Nilsson. Among sopranos, the role of Turandot is one of the most difficult, requiring a clear and strong voice. Nilsson's human voice, with its hidden emotions, is amazing in many ways, and it still reigns as one of the best records to this day. Nilsson has two stereo session recordings, but the later 1965 edition is the old EMI edition. Although this recording is not a high-fidelity recording, there are many studio recordings, including those made by other companies, where the orchestra is so strong that it is difficult to hear the voices, and the balance is far from the balance of a live opera performance. , this recording focuses on the voices, and the wonderful voices of co-stars Corelli and Scott in their heyday are also recorded in a natural sound. The aim was to create an authentic recording of opera, and it can be said to be a clear representation of EMI's policy at the time. Conductor Molinari-Pradelli also values the relationship with the singers, and brings his entire work together beautifully. The sound of the orchestra at the time is also important when appreciating the work, and the excellent chorus also adds to the beauty of this album. The DSD format is good at reproducing the high-quality vocal textures and orchestra tones of the time, making this work suitable for playback on SACD. The master of this sound source is also in good condition, and we were able to reproduce it with a sound quality that is almost close to the original master. This is the first time in this series that the entire opera will be released. This time, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Nilsson's birth, we will be releasing a limited number of special editions with translated lyrics.

In addition, this reprint includes a new and emotional commentary in Japanese by Junichi Kunido. His thoughtful writings are also interesting to read. In this series, the SACD layer aims for high resolution and a rich sound field with extended high frequencies and soft nuances, while the CD layer aims for a realistic tone that is pushed out with a solid sound. The CD itself has great potential, so please enjoy it as an SACD hybrid disc that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
