Verdi Aida Riccardo Muti Caballe Domingo 2 SACD Hybrid TOWER RECORDS JAPAN

Product introduction

One of the best performances of this song, Muti's first complete opera album, performed by a gorgeous cast at his peak, is reissued in 2018! An authentic masterpiece full of dynamism and vitality. Lyrics with Japanese translation

The world's first SACD version of the former EMI masterpiece recorded in 1974 as Muti's first complete opera album. Full of dynamism and vitality throughout, this album is one of the best recordings of ``Aida.'' It is still highly acclaimed as an authentic opera recording, completed with passion and drive by the young Muti, along with a gorgeous cast and an excellent chorus at the height of their lives. An excellent recording that captures the performance along with the atmosphere of the times has been revived as the latest modern 2018 reprint. A detailed commentary (Japanese) by Yasuo Takasaki is also included again (the commentary is 88 pages including work explanations and translations). This is a special release with lyrics and Japanese translation. For this reprint, we used masters digitized at 96kHz/24bit from the original masters in Japan, and newly mastered the SACD and CD layers separately. This is a permanent preservation record. In addition, this reprint will be released as a 2-disc set, similar to the previous domestic CD release.

``Aida'' became a hot topic because it was Muti's first opera recording and because it featured singers who were at their peak at the time. This is an important sound source that served as the starting point for many of Muti's later opera recordings, including Verdi. In terms of recording, opera recordings on the former EMI label were almost complete by 1974, and the original recording method for operas, which emphasizes voices, was followed. This recording contains so much information that you can feel the enthusiasm and pleasant tension of all the players, vocalists, and producers involved in this recording at the time. Of course, you could feel it in the past, but in this reprint, the master tape was in very good condition, so you can feel the atmosphere of the time even more vividly. The atmosphere, overtones and localization of each voice are beautifully reproduced in the space, so there are plenty of elements to truly enjoy this work.

For this reprint, we have included Yasuo Takasaki's extensive commentary that was published when the domestic edition was reissued in 1990. Although he passed away in December of last year (2017), he continued to be Japan's leading opera critic. In this edition of "Aida," he gives a loving commentary on the work and performance that seems to inherit the high level of perfection of the album, and we have deliberately reprinted the entire text in this reprint. Please enjoy his writings, which in a sense make you feel "hot". In this series, the SACD layer aims for high resolution and a rich sound field with extended high frequencies and soft nuances, while the CD layer aims for a realistic tone that is pushed out with a solid sound. The CD itself has great potential, so please enjoy it as an SACD hybrid disc that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
