      Sie war die vierte Ehefrau des englischen Königs Heinrich VIII. und war dadurch vom 6. Januar 1540 bis 9. Juli 1540 Königin von England. Heinrich VIII. plante nach dem Tod seiner dritten Frau Jane Seymour aus politischen Gründen eine weitere Heirat. Er wählte Anna von Kleve aus, da ihm ihr von Hans Holbein gemaltes Porträt gefiel, und unterschrieb den Heiratsvertrag, ohne sie persönlich kennengelernt zu haben. Nach ihrer ersten Begegnung sah er sich anscheinend in seinen Erwartungen enttäuscht und ließ die am 6. Januar 1540 in Greenwich geschlossene Ehe ein halbes Jahr später für ungültig erklären.

      She was the fourth wife of the English King Henry VIII and was thus Queen of England from 6 January 1540 to 9 July 1540. Henry VIII planned another marriage for political reasons after the death of his third wife Jane Seymour. He chose Anne of Cleves because he liked her portrait painted by Hans Holbein, and signed the marriage contract without having met her personally. After their first meeting, he apparently felt disappointed in his expectations and had the marriage, concluded on 6 January 1540 in Greenwich, declared invalid six months later.
