Most of these I have seen have a real penny for the poop, but this one makes more sense since the basket of coins matches the coin he is pooping.  This is called a Geldscheisser Meaning (Money Crapper) a German humor gift usually given to friends on New Year's Eve for good luck. Usually means wealth and a successful year of bringing in money.  

The Man figure is carved wood, stained with painted detail.  

The figure on the base is 7" Tall

The base is 6" long by 3-1/2" Wide and has a brass ashtray inserted to be flush with the top of the base. 

Excellent Condition and quite a conversation piece.
