This is a vintage Japanese wooden doll known called a kokeshi. This kokeshi is of the bobble head variety and is dressed in a blue jacket called a haori. The haori is hand painted with a traditional tan and white pine needle pattern while checks and red blossoms cover the inner kimono. An exceptional example of kokeshi painting.
Having been loved over the years there is wear on the body paint as seen in the pictures. This kokeshi has also been in storage for several decades, it remains in overall good vintage condition and has a beautiful warm patina that shows the decades. These kokeshi measures about 2" in diameter (5 cm) and 3 1/2" (9 cm).
