  • Beschreibung: Das Blatt entstand auf einer Reise, die den englischen Architekten, Kartographen, archäologischen Schriftsteller, Kunstsammler, Numismatiker und literarischen Übersetzer William Barnard Clarke zwischen 1838 und 1839 nach Frankreich und später im Jahr 1839 weiter nach Italien führte. Die Darstellung dokumentiert zwei Funde aus Vaison (gallorömisch: Vasio), der heute größten archäologischen Ausgrabungsstätte Frankreichs. Als der englische Architekt die Gegend bereiste, waren bereits einige archäologische Funde zu verzeichnen, die systematischen Grabungen indes folgten erst ab dem Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts.

  • Description: The sheet was created on a journey that took the English architect, cartographer, archaeological writer, art collector, numismatist and literary translator William Barnard Clarke to France between 1838 and 1839 and later on to Italy in 1839. The account documents two finds from Vaison (Gallo-Roman: Vasio), today the largest archaeological site in France. When the English architect visited the area, there were already some archaeological finds, but systematic excavations did not follow until the beginning of the 20th century.

  • Condition: Rather good condition. Margins a little bit browned, overall faintly browned, only slightly stained, lower right a little bit soiled, small pinholes in the corners.
