SECLA stands for “Sociedade de Exportção e Cerãmica Ltd.
SECLA Portugal was a pottery workshop established in Cladas da Rainha of the Oeste region of Portugal in 1947.
During the 1950s and later, SECLA Portugal exported heavily to England and the United States.
In the 1950s, SECLA Portugal opened Estúdio SECLA, a pottery studio. It employed modern ceramic artists such as Ferreira da Silva, Ian Hird, Julio Pomar, and António Quadro, and Hansi Staël.
In 1990, SECLA Portugal had over 700 employees. During the 1990s, inexpensive Asian imports negatively impacted the company’s finances. Production ceased in June 2008.
