HERMÈS silk twill carré scarf, "Chiffres et Monogrammes Année 1886" in a green colorway. Chiffres et Monogrammes (année 1886), was designed by Lise Coutin and first issued in 1962. Measuring about 34" x 34.5", the scarf--in an outré palette of greens, purples, yellow, maroon, blue, cream, and black--features what appears to be a large book, illustrated with all kinds of collaged ephemera--coats of arms, monograms and logos--and bookmarked with a long ribbon. Based on looking at comparables, I believe this scarf is an original issue from 1962. It is missing the labeling, but I believe it was made in France, again, based on research of comparables. In very good pre-owned, vintage condition. It was well-loved: the hems are in tact and still plump. There are several small stains, and one tiny, tiny hole at the tip of a crown image--see photos. These flaws--IMO-- do not detract from the scarf's overall integrity and beauty--and this particular colorway is amazing.
