Evinrude BRP ETEC 6 pack Flywheel Magnet Kit for 115-200 HP (2.7 liter G1) & 200-300 HP (3.3/3.4 liter G1)

Flywheel PN 5007033, 5007967, 0586814, 0586966, #352907, #587013

Easy to use 6 pack Kit contains: 3 magnets oriented North-South and 3 magnets oriented South-North, 2 packs of double bubble epoxy glue, a mixing stick and an instruction sheet. This kit is suitable for flywheels that are not missing all (18) magnets and need only replacement for a few magnets. Do you need a total rebuild? Check my other listing with the 18pack Magnet kit.

Check your flywheel PN number. This is not in all cases the number stamped on your flywheel. Check your parts list for the correct PN number. This kit will not work on the Etec I2 and I3 engines (25 to 90 HP), because these engines use a flywheel with a different diameter.

Some frequent asked questions:

Q: Do I have to retime my engine when I have repaired my flywheel?

If you go by the book you should always retime an engine after the flywheel was pulled off the crankshaft. If you use your original flywheel as a base and did not replace your keyway, timing should be no issue. When you buy a different (new or used) flywheel you should always check timing. If you have any issues with the keyway alignment of your existing flywheel you should also retime the engine.

Q: How many magnets do I need

You should always replace magnets that are broken, chipped or lost their magnet power for some reason. Also I recommend to replace magnets that are deeply rusted and lost their nickel coating. You might re-use them but take them off the flywheel and remove all the nickel back and front an recoat them using an epoxy primer.

Q: Can magnets that have come off be re-used?

Magnets can be re-used as long as they are not broken, chipped or deeply rusted and lost their power. I recommend recoating magnets on which the nickel coating is compromised. Rust will move on inside the nickel coating and that will result in the magnet eventually coming off your flywheel, shutting your motor down.

Q: What are the effects on my engine when I have a problem with my magnets

If magnets come loose, shifting position or get cracked or chipped your engine will get trouble maintaining its 55 volt system voltage. It can give all sort of codes in relation to the 55 volt system, both below or under the expected value. Also your engine can underperform on WOT or it can stop charging your boat’s battery.

Q: What is an easy way to remove magnets that I want to reglue to be sure they are fitted tight to the flywheel?

You can use a heatgun and slightly heat the magnet. Use a flathead screwdriver and tap it behind the magnet. On most cases it will come off unharmed. If the nickel coating is damaged, remove all nickel and recoat the magnet in epoxy before you glue it back to the flywheel.

Q: How do I prep my flywheel before I glue the magnets on?

You should wire brush or even better sandblast your flywheel to remove all rust and glue residue from your flywheel. Use sanding paper to get a smooth surface, Clean your flywheel with a degreasing product and then after drying use a good epoxy primer to prepare the flywheel for your new (or used/existing) magnets. Glue them on with the double bubble 2K epoxy glue provided in the kit. Let sit over night. Finish with another layer of Epoxy primer and black engine paint.

Q: How do I position the magnets the right way.?

The flywheel has 18 magnets and 9 of them are oriented North-South (We call them 0) and there are 9 of them oriented South-North (We call them 1). The pattern on the flywheel needs to be 0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1, etc etc. No magnet should be next to each other that attracts one and other when facing inward following the arc of the flywheel. In other words when a magnet is tested to the one on the left or the right and is placed in the same direction with the bended arc towards the flywheel, it should not attract their neighbor magnet. They (neighbors) should repeal each other as they would sit on the flywheel.

Q: How fast can I get these magnets? I need to go boating next weekend

These kits ship to US in 3 working days. I use UPS. So when you order in the weekend or on monday or tuesday, you will have them the same week.
