It grows quickly and is a rampant climber, so support it with trellis against a fence or warm wall, or stringed rows with cane supports. I grow it around a cane wigwam shape.
It does best in a sunny spot, outside. If grown in a greenhouse it will take-over with growth.
The spikes on the outside of mature fruits are not harmful and feel quite soft and spongey, and they completely soften when cooked.
Cut open slitting it like a pepper, be careful not to cut the seeds inside, which you can save and plant your own seeds from this variety as it is heirloom and open-pollinated, true-to-type seed, giving you a true viable plant same as the parent plant.
Plant seeds during march on an indoor warm windowsill, plant outside may-june when frost risk is over. Harvest pods as they form throughout the warm months. Long harvest season, even in autumn cooler temps.
STRIATO D’NAPOLI GREEN COURGETTE/ZUCCHINI - 12 seeds
This courgette is from Italy, and starts fruiting early, producing many courgettes right through the season. Outside it does really well, and is equally good in the tunnel.
Large plants that stay fairly compact and don’t travel along the beds so much as other varieties.
It give lots of long fruits with light and dark green stripes.
Cooks well without turning mushy, im very fond of this for veg mixes.
Perfect for smaller plots - really tasty.
Sow seeds to start early in late march/april inside, plant out in may when frost risk is over. Or plant seeds direct in soil position outside in may.
RED/PURPLE ORACH LETTUCE/SPINACH - 100 seeds
Orach grows quickly early in the summer, with large tender heart-shaped purpley-red leaves for salad, or it is delicious cooked.
The first time i tasted this raw, i fell in love with it. The leaves are soft and velvety tasting, truly delicious. An exciting colourful addition to add to salads or cook if you prefer.
Sow the seed from April/May onwards, for harvest over the summer. Useful to do a later sowing too, as they can go to seed earlier than other lettuce/spinach.
It can grow to 1m tall, so best to pick the early young leaves for raw salad, and cook the later larger leaves, as it gets mature. Despite being tall they remain fairly slim so don’t take up much room, and can be planted 8 inches from each other.
This plant produces both small black and larger brown seeds, and both seeds produce the same plant, it really is unusual in all ways and a firm favourite of mine.
GALINA YELLOW TOMATO - 40 seeds
VERY EARLY SWEET YELLOW CHERRY
A very productive large sweet yellow cherry from Siberia, it tolerates cold weather like no other and in the polytunnel the last fruits can be picked into december. It keeps producing tomatoes long after other strains stop fruiting. I really like this for my challenging climate on the west of Ireland!
Grown as a vine, but i allow some side shoots to develop during summer, as they will produce well later on in the season, and ripen into late autumn.
Its sweet balanced with acid taste works well raw and cooked for soups and yellow ketchup. The fruits are slightly bigger than usual cherry-size, as a bonus.
Sow seeds march, inside on a warm windowsill, plant out in pots/soil/polytunnel mid may/june when frost risk is over.
MILLEFLEUR TOMATO - 30 seeds
A centiflor vine tomato variety producing huge amounts of small yellow fruits.
They really do produce huge trusses of hundreds of flowers! Each fruit is about 3/4 inch across
A tasty stunning variety that does well in our polytunnel, and would cope with a sunny patio position too.
Most tomatoes can be sown mid march inside in small pots to get going early so they can be replanted into their final growing position in may, once the risk of frost is over.
MOSKVICH LARGE RED TOMATO - 25 seeds
Solanum lycopersicum
A truly hardy cold tolerant variety producing large, almost beefsteak sized fruits. Im amazed how well this does in west Ireland polytunnels, where sunshine hours are low. It’s early maturing and has a long season.
A deep and rich flavour, these tomatoes can be used in all dishes.
Disease resistant, crack resistant, cold resistant, and vigorous. Keep side shoots pinched out allowing 5-6 main stem trusses to form.
Moskvich translates to - a person living in Moscow. Also known as Moskovich Tomato, hence why it tolerates cold conditions so well. An excellent choice for home gardens, greenhouses, market growers, and open field production. An heirloom variety developed in the early 1970s.
Sow inside mid march then plant into final position outside sunny spot or polytunnel mid may/june when frost risk is over.
ROSE DE BERNE LARGE PINK TOMATO - 40 seeds
A gorgeous unusual large pinky coloured salad tomato! Its a traditional vigorous, heavy-setting variety. The fruits are fairly large and high yielding heavy trusses, yielding high weights.
Tasty and juicy it suits all types of dishes, especially nice in salads.
Sow inside in march, ready to plant out in a sunny position or polytunnel late may/june when risk of frost is over.
ALL ITEMS POSTED FROM IRELAND.
THANKS FOR LOOKING!
