This custom-built monovar macroscope was acquired three years ago. It is a unique instrument that is tailored for inspection and focus stacking. While the precise history of its construction remains unknown, its design and components showcase a thoughtful combination of high-quality Olympus optics and specialized features.

The macroscope is designed around an Olympus trinocular head, which provides the versatility of simultaneous observation and imaging through eyepieces and a camera. The system is equipped with a macrolens and variable magnification. This lens not only offers a range of magnification options but also incorporates a built-in iris, providing precise control over the amount of light entering the system. Additionally, the lens features an adaptable polarizer, enhancing its utility for imaging tasks that require manipulation of polarized light.

Mounted on an Olympus SZX-ILLD200 base, the macroscope ensures stability and support for the entire optical assembly. The Olympus SZ-STS focus block, integrated into the system, enables course focusing for large subjects.

The macroscope's base is equipped with both brightfield and darkfield illumination options, offering flexibility in capturing and visualizing different types of specimens. This dual-illumination capability makes the macroscope suitable for a wide range of applications, from biological and medical imaging to material science and industrial inspection.

One of the standout features of this macroscope is its focus stacking capability. This functionality allows you to capture a series of images at different focal planes and combine them to create a single, fully-focused image. The ability to perform focus stacking while simultaneously viewing the subject through the eyepieces enhances the user experience and facilitates real-time adjustments for optimal imaging.

Despite its three years of ownership, the macroscope has seen very little use, indicating its well-maintained condition. Its robust design and premium components make it a reliable tool for professionals and enthusiasts alike, offering a powerful and versatile platform for detailed observation and imaging tasks.
