A very nice example of a
World War One

Sweetheart Bar Brooch
constructed from an
RFC Other Rank's Tunic Buttton
1914-1917
Founded in May 1913 as the air arm of the Army
and adopting the moto
Per Ardua ad Astra
(Through Adversity to the Stars)
the RFC arrived in France on August 1 1914.
Operating in various aerial roles throughout
The Great War
including
Fighters, Bombers, Photo-reconnaissance & Artillery observation,
it merged with
The Royal Naval Air Service
on April 1st 1918 to become
The Royal Air Force
taking with it the former RFC motto.
A really nice, quality brass RFC button
produced by famous maker
Pitt & Co 31 Maddox Street London.W.
the bar to the rear is stamped
'Rolled Gold'
and measuring approx 1.5" across is a lovely
souvenir from
The Great War's Home Front!
