RFC Other Rank's Tunic Buttton

1914-1917


Founded in May 1913 as the air arm of the Army

and adopting the moto

Per Ardua ad Astra

(Through Adversity to the Stars)

the RFC arrived in France on August 1 1914.


Operating in various aerial roles throughout 

The Great War

including

Fighters, Bombers, Photo-reconnaissance & Artillery observation,

it merged  with 

The Royal Naval Air Service 

on April 1st 1918 to become 

The Royal Air Force

taking with it the former RFC motto.

A really nice, quality brass RFC button

produced by famous maker

 Pitt & Co 31 Maddox Street London.W.

 the bar to the rear is stamped

'Rolled Gold'

and measuring approx  1.5" across is a lovely

souvenir from 

The Great War's Home Front!
