VALENTINES DAY Antique 19th C. Calligraphy Folk Art Spencerian pen & ink drawing.  Two colors Red and Black. Dated February 14, 1887. Signed by Rollie Martz. Based on Google research (Family Search, Roots Web & Mertz Genealogy), Rollie Martz was born Rollin Herschel Martz December 19,1879 in Arlington, Madison Township, Hancock County, Ohio. The Maertz-Martz-Mertz family were early settlers to Hancock County, Ohio. His great grandfather was Michael, his grandfather was Napoleon and his father was Dorilus. Rollie died in May 12, 1891 at 11 years old. Death was listed as accident. He is buried in Eagle Creek Cemetery, Van Buren Township, Hancock, Ohio. The ribbon banner has a dove and signed with his name Rollie Martz. Also signed but smudged "Martz" in upper left hand corner. Created on school lined paper. The art work is well done with a lot attention to detail. Measures about  7- 3/4 x 7-7/8 inches. There is a little age discoloration and the drawing had previously been folded. It was found loose and flattened in the book "Illustrated Historical Atlas of Hancock County Ohio 1875 H.H. Hardesty" which is included in this offering. The inside cover has a genealogy of the Martz family and references the map pages showing the Martz family property in Madison Township.

Description: Illustrated Historical Atlas of Hancock County Ohio, 1875. Large volume (14.5" x 17.75"). Hard cover. Title in faded gilt on front cover. Some wear at edges. Binder shows lots of wear but intact. No separation of pages noted. Occasional small stains and smudges throughout.  The book includes large fold out Map of Railways of the United States and Canada, color Map of Ohio,  color Map of Hancock County, Statistics from 1870, History of Hancock County, Personal Histories of Subscribers, County Directory of Townships, Maps of Townships, black & white drawings of historical sites, residences, farms, businesses etc. 109 pages. A very hard to find First Edition.
