My nana Olive Mae inspired me to love these treasures...she really was a woman ahead of her time...she fussed and mostly lived in house dresses...her whole devotion in life was to be a mother and grandmother...she loved to iron...so she ironed everything...the sheets...draperies...she loved to wash clothes in her homemade lavender soaps...she raised my mother when her own mother abandoned her...she worked to make her life complete...drawing her baths each night and scrubbing her down...my mother would say nana was such a scrubber and a talker...she would be scrubbing as she was saying "Nancy what were you playing in outside today"...my mom said it was just another way she was shown love...there was a lot of love in that house...that sweet old house that was a nest of healing for my mother and her grandparents who wanted nothing more than to make up for the life she didn't have. So you can imagine in such a loving sweet home that nana would decorate in what is now a marvel of style...shabby chic...it is these prints that reach into my soul and touch it when I see them...and to have them in my hands...to describe and hold before passing them on to another soul...is...well...just like reconnecting with nana...pop and my mom...in some small way.
