Condition: As with any antique that has been loved and cherished for 115+ years, these lamps will all have hints of wear and use; this may come in minor chips or flea bites (especially around the base of the top globes), deterioration in the brass work; sometimes you will see paint over the original brass work, etc. If you can imagine, think about how these lamps must have been cared for as a special heirloom to have survived over 115 years and still be intact.

What is a "Gone with the Wind" Lamp? Gone with the Wind lamps were really Parlor Vase Banquet Lamps that mostly originated in the1890s -1915s. These lamps were originally oil-burning central draft lamps that pre-dated the explosion of electrical lamps in the 1900s. Although several companies produced the glass for these lamps and the brass parts, most folks attribute these lamps to Fostoria, Consolidated or Pittsburgh. The lamps gained the nickname "Gone with the Wind Lamp" after the 1930s movie of the same title where these lamps can be observed in multiple scenes. These lamps however did post-date the Civil War.

Can my lamp be used? Although some folks to seek to restore these lamps to their original oil-burning state, the tanks that are in most of these lamps have long since deteriorated; you can occasionally find a good oil tank on EBAY to replace one that has rusted or cracked; however, I would still encourage extreme safety when attempting to use this method. What I typically do is simply run a plug with socket from the oil tank down through the base. I don't attach it but rather just sit it on the oil font in between the chimney and the tank. This will allow you to have a light that is safe. I also recommend using only LED lights that do not produce heat. Low wattage for a natural glow. Many of the reproduction lamps from the 1950s-1990s will have the base lit as well; however, these lamps when they were manufactured did not place lights in the base - so to keep with the original state, I don't light the bases.

About Me: I have been collecting antiques my entire adult life. My parents were avid antique collectors and passed that on to me. I have especially focused on collecting Victorian antiquities including furniture, lamps, and other glass collectibles. I have a love for parlor lamps as well as slag glass lamps. Over the past 30 years, I have accumulated a very large collection and now, with the recent passing of my parents and inheritance of their collections as well, I am forced to begin down-sizing significantly. I will be listing new lamps and other antiques weekly, so be sure you bookmark my seller account and check back. How will my lamp be shipped? Of course, it is extremely important to me that these lamps are given a new home where they can be loved as much as I have for many years to come; this first means, I must make sure they get to you safely. To do this, I have developed a packaging method that works for me; in all my years of collecting and buying lamps, if the instructions were followed, 99% of the lamps arrived safely. Larger lamps will be shipped in two separate boxes -that will be double corrugated for extra protection. They glass components will be heavily bubble-wrapped and packaged in another box with extra padding. Those boxes will then be placed inside the outer double corrugated boxes with good packaging between the inner and outer boxes. Smaller lamps can sometimes be shipped in one outer box with two inner boxes. Each of the boxes will be fully insured for the value of the lamp.
