Well built and well loved touring bike! This is a complete bike that I've used it as a commuter bike in Honolulu. I've put less than 1500 miles on it. I bought it used and do not know it's history prior to purchase in 2019. It has been exposed to the island air of Hawaii and has some bits of corrosion on the components, but everything functions as expected. I do not have any plans to do a long distance tour and would like to pass it on.
This bike is great for someone who is looking for a touring or commuting bike. The high steering post and cruiser style bars are good for long days on the saddle where posture and comfort are essential. The steering post is supposedly adjustable, but i have not found a way to adjust it vertically.
Original electrical connections for hub powered lights do not work. Vandals cut the wires and I have not rewired and connected them. The dynamo hub is not considered to be working or functional. It is a shame because the self propelled lights would have been way easier than keeping lights recharged!
I have replaced the rear rim, rear cassette, and chain. These have less than 500 miles.
Front cassette is original and mileage is unknown
Brake and shifter cables are original with no issues. Could use a tune up since some gears skip or need a double shift.
This Koga Miyata model in particular is hard to find in the United States. It has the features of any touring or trekking bike. Front suspension, rear rack, wide range of gear ratios, comfortable handlebars and braze-ons to add accessories.
Tubes: Rear is brand new. Front has less than 50 miles.
Treads: Rear is brand new. Front is in good condition with less than 300 miles.
Rims: Rear was replaced in 2019 with a 36 spoke touring rim. Front rim is original.
Brake levers, cables and V brake caliper set: Original set, works as expected.
Shifters and derailleurs: Shifts through all gears. Needs to be readjusted and reindexed. Some gear changes require a "double press of the shift button.
Rims: Front rim: 36 spoke with presto valve holes Rear rim: 36 spoke with presto valve holes
Quick Release hubs: Good condition with rust.
Rear Rack: Good condition
Fenders: None
Handlebars: Good condition with padded grips
