A nice example of a
WW-II Royal Air Force
Volunteer Reserve
Civilian-Wear Small Lapel Badge
In 1936, with war clouds building up over Europe,
The Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
was created to supplement the already active
RAF Auxiliary Reserve.
Tasked with bringing under its umbrella all existing
trained British civilian pilots and recruiting & training
all future fighter & bomber pilots needed if and when war broke out,
the RAF-VR was later extended to recruit
Reserve Ground Crew
in the shape of Signals & Intelligence personnel.
Measuring approx 1" in length and worn on civilian suits & blazers
this very attractive wee un-numbered, badge is another
cracking example of an RAF-VR members badge
issued on the Home Front in the build-up to War in 1939 and
The Battle of Britain in 1940
