This is a single piece of white, Chinese habotai silk.
The size is 100 x 80cm/39 x 36ins.
Habotai silk is very finely woven and these remnants have a momme weight of 8. This means it's a lightweight fabric, suitable for a selection of uses, including:
- crafting
- silk painting
- lining
- dolls clothes
- clothing
This silk is soft to the touch and has a nice sparkle or sheen to it. Silk threads are triangular, not round, and this is why they catch the light so well.
The remnants are what we have left over after making larger silk products. Each piece is clean and unmarked - except for the odd pencil cutting line here and there. This silk is quite creased but a quick, cool iron will smooth it out.
This piece is made up from two separate remnants sewn together so there is a seam running the length of it - see pics above. The silk width to the first seam is approx. 80cm; from the first seam to the edge is approx. 20cm.
Unseamed edges are cut and may be a bit ragged with loose threads apparent - scissors will be your friend!
The piece is actually a bit larger than the size shown - this gives you a good border to work with.
