Guru

Guru Pole Floats by Mick Wilkinson

Designed and manufactured in the UK in conjunction with Mick Wilkinson.

What are they?

A brand new hand-made float range from Tackle Guru. Manufactured in-house to the specifications of famous float builder, Mick Wilkinson. All full Mick Wilkinson spec floats, using his extra reliable materials, machines and unique float building processes. This has been a VERY long and difficult task, and we’re incredibly proud as a company to be producing them in house, providing jobs and employment for many local people, with plans to grow as the range does.

 Unique Specifications…

Mick Wilkinson is one of, if not the most renowned hand-made float maker ever! He has over 20 years of experience, and was the first to use high density foam to make floats. The floats are made from the very best quality materials, and have always been designed in conjunction with the UK’s highest level inspirational anglers. They are renowned for being super durable, and for years have been in high demand at a premium price thanks to their reputation – one reason we’re super keen to keep Mick himself involved as much as possible. Each part of the float is incredibly well-thought, from the stem materials and measurements, to the bristle colours and paints.

We have developed a bespoke colour for Guru range of floats, designed from scratch. This is a heron-grey colour, helping the floats remain discrete and inoffensive when in water. They all look attractive and consistent on the shelf too.

We will be taking over his day-to-day business, and he will be concentrating on new patterns, writing programs for the machines and developing patterns for floats in Europe – a big part of our future growth of this project. Mick will continue supplying his bespoke patterns to the public, but his established patterns will be available from Tackle Guru only.

Diamond

A renowned pattern that was originally designed between Mick Wilkinson and Steve Ringer. A long and stable float, developed for fishing baits such as meat, corn and pellets, when stable presentation is needed – the ultimate float for fishing short.

The diamond features a long, stable fiberglass stem, suitable in all conditions, that is super durable. This runs right up through the high-grade foam float body and into the bristle, making the float virtually indestructible. The body shape is where the name comes from, a diamond. This offers a balance of stability, sensitivity and low resistance. The bristle is hollow plastic, and highly visible, cut and painted in house from scratch. Perfect for supporting large baits. The side eye is glued by hand, deep into the body, for upmost strength!

1.8mm hollow plastic bristle
0.9mm fiberglass stem
0.2g, 0.3g, 0.4g, 0.5g, 0.6g, 0.75g, 1g

Pinger Wire

A super popular Mick Wilkinson design, that is truly all-round for commercial fishing. As the name suggest, it’s perfect for pinging pellets, but equally at home for all kinds of baits when targeting carp, F1s and commercial silvers. The balance of visibility, strength, and stability is perfect. The wire stem suits this float to choppy conditions, with the rounded body shape offering stability in tow. The medium 1.5mm hollow plastic bristle is highly visible, thick enough to support large baits, but also sensitive enough to detect shy bites from big wary fish.

The ultimate commercial all-rounder, made from Wilky’s renowned high-grade foam. The wire stem runs all the way through the body into the bristle, making the float virtually indestructible! Again, a hand-glued extra-long side eye is unbelievably strong!

1.5mm hollow plastic bristle
0.6mm wire stem
0.15g, 0.2g, 0.3g, 0.4g, 0.5g, 0.6g, 0.75g, 1g

Pinger Carbon

A super popular Mick Wilkinson design, that is truly all-round for commercial fishing, identical to the Pinger Wire, but with a carbon stem. As the name suggest, it’s perfect for pinging pellets, but equally at home for all kinds of baits when targeting carp, F1s and commercial silvers.

The carbon stem makes the float very difficult to tangle, and is extra robust! Ideal for fishing through the water and on the drop, helping anglers get perfect presentation! The rounded body shape offers stability in tow and choppy conditions. The medium 1.5mm hollow plastic bristle is highly visible, thick enough to support large baits, but also sensitive enough to detect shy bites from big wary fish.

The ultimate commercial all-rounder, made from Wilky’s renowned high-grade foam. The carbon stem runs all the way through the body into the bristle, making the float virtually indestructible! Again, a hand-glued extra-long side eye is unbelievably strong!

Cookie

Another renowned Mick Wilkinson pattern is joining the family, in the shape of one of the most famous shallow fishing floats of all time, the Cookie! This dibber style float is designed for a wide range of shallowor up-in-the-water pole fishing situations on commercialsfor carp and F1s. Sizes of 0.1g, 0.2g, and 0.3gcover all shallow fishing options, and the floats are superb for the popular ‘slapping’ style of shallow fishing that takes place on a lot of commercials.

The Cookie is a very popular pattern amongst commercial experts for ‘mugging’ or ‘dobbing’ fish too, perfect for flicking at cruising fish without tangling, making an enticing quiet little ‘plip’ to catch their attention!Like all our range, strength is an essential build quality, and despite being a small float, the Cookie can withstand catching big weights of large hard-fighting fish!

A lot of this is down to the fact it’s made using high-density foam, with the side eye glued deep into the body to ensure it will never pull out. The side eye also ensures the float sits perfect every time to give anglers ultimate presentation, and doesn’t ride-up or get caught in the surface tension which sometimes happens when using silicone or a spring-style eye.

The shape of the cookie makes it perfect for shallow work and suspending baits off the bottom such as hard pellets, meat or casters. It has a dumpy little body shouldering up into the dibber tip, which is highly visible and supports a whole manner of baits up to 8mm pellets with ease. The short wire stem is sturdy and stiff, not bending or breaking under pressure, but providing the small float with a lot of stability and making sure it cocks quickly when fishing shallow – important as you want to see bites as quickly as possible when shallow fishing.
