PETER
DAWSON
1882-1961
One
of a kind, original pen and ink illustration by Louis Ollier signed by the
artist and autographed and dated by the bass-baritone. Size is 6.5” x 9.25”.
Dawson,
like his fellow Australian low voiced countryman Malcolm McEachern had a very
short opera career and then became a top recording artist in the UK. He was known for singing bass-baritone
repertory on records, as well as lieder, foreign songs, as well as local songs,
sea shanties and even Australian songs like “Waltzing Matilda”. At one time he was the most popular vocal
artist in the UK. His records are
stellar showing a cultured technique which he received as a pupil of legendary
bel canto baritone Sir Charles Santley.
