To start with, I will answer what my most common question is:  YES, I can mill your wood that you send me, and YES, I can do octave mandolin plates as well as some guitar CNC work.  Please inquire and we can work something out maybe.  Also, I am constantly milling plates for mandolin and mandola and I often have other top or back plates available.  for example, if you do not like the top on this, ask and I can show you what's avaialble to substitute it for- and also, I have other woods milled up.  Personally I prefer to use mahogany, walnut, redwood, red cedar, koa, etc.

Up for sale is another set of mandolin plates.  Sitka spruce and eastern curly maple.  Top is 3-piece, back is 2-piece. Back has black veneer line glued in.   All plates cut by CNC using excellent files that I made with some great digital marine architects.  Slight discount with this set, as there is a small blemish in the wood.  Wood is still structural but it is noticeable and not triple A grade clear wood.  Discounted price on this, for those who do not care, who will be staining or are just starting out, etc.  See my other items for non-blem sets at a higher price, if available.  Perfectly clear AAA grade plates actually cost a fair bit more- I just like to offer discounted sets here, but please inquire if you are looking for something else.

I have been a professional luthier for 29 years now, carved over 100 plates by hand and about 10 years ago my arm was experiencing the nerve pains associated with repeat stress syndrome - I had realized I was overusing in a certain way and started having Roger Siminoff pre-carve mandolin plates for me and then he retired. So a friend who had a CNC started milling plates for me once I had a file made (which took a year and had many revisions) and then I got my own CNC and learned the engineering and programming aspect of that, which brings us to present time.  So every so often I offer a mandola or mandolin kit for sale and people also can send me their own wood, please message for custom work.   I often make mandola with 16 or 17 inch scale length with this plate.  The final pass on these surfaces is such that it's ready for 180-220 grit sandpaper.  The spruce always needs more sanding/scraping than the maple, but expect do some work. ha!

This set includes 1 top, plus one back and sides, as seen in the photo. Laser cut paper template included with which you can make your mold.   Top wood is sitka spruce, back and sides are curly maple.  I can cut sound holes for an extra fee. I can offer other services like CNC mold, laser template on acrylic, side thickness sanding and custom wood milling for top and back.  I can do mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, Mandocello, guitar and jazz guitar.  I can also do fingerboards, etc.  time and material billing or send your own material.

Photo show is a mandola made from this system, but is of course, not included.

thank you for your interest!
