BLOB THE SPIDER NO6 C1890 ANTIQUE Magic Lantern Slide FAIRIES WOODPECKER INSECT

A stunning slide from the set " Blob the spider " or also known as " Adventures of Rosywing, the beautiful fairy " produced by Newton & Co in or before 1888. The slide is hand painted with fantastic detail and vivid colours.

I believe the illustrations relate to Charles O Murray's book " Merry elves: or, little adventures in fairyland " produced in 1874.

Provenance: Family & descendants of George Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle ( He was the last Earl of Carlisle to own Castle Howard ) & the family of Wilfrid Roberts M.P ( his mother, Lady Cecilia was a daughter of the 9th Earl & his sister was Winifred Nicholson, the artist )

A rare find. I cannot recall having other slides relating to faries as well as one that comes with a strong provenance, possibly influencing Winifred Nicholson's work having seen examples. This is really a small work of art in its own right.

The slide is approximately 8.2cm X 8.2cm or in inches 3.23" X 3.23"
