RARE 1897 CORBETT-FITZSIMMONS FIGHT 63mm Film Fragment Medals Photo Postcards

The fight of the century took place on St. Patrick's Day, March 3,1897 between "Gentleman" Jim Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons at the race track arena in Carson City, Nevada for the World's Heavyweight Title. The state of Nevada legalized boxing to permit the fight. The purse was $15,000 and over 4000 people attended, including Wyatt Earp and other famous gunslingers. The city was packed with fans.  Fitzsimmons won the fight in the 14th round by KO. The world's first feature film was made at the fight, directed by Enoch J Rector.  Recording over 100 minutes of action, it became the highest grossing film and the longest of its time bringing in almost a million dollars. Today, only fragments of the original film survive.
