THE BRITISH ACADEMY of FILM and TELEVISION ARTS (BAFTA) / A TRIBUTE to JULIE ANDREWS ' Saturday 7th October 1989, 1st edition created in the U.K. for the gala event, which was sponsored by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, President of the Academy; 9 x 9.1-inch PB with semi-thick card stock covers bound by 2 staples; 20 unnumbered pp, printed on thick, powder blue-framed white glossy stock, end papers are semi-thick and transparent, decorated with a pattern of BAFTA'S LOGO and Shell U.K.'s logo (they financed the event); very good condition at age 35; has notable fading and rubbing to lower front corner caused by contact with water; as a result, all the lower page corners are crinkled and have a soft bend to the rear at their tips).

This is a splendid program to the great singer, actress and emerging author Julia Andrews. As esteemed actor and director Sir Richard Attenborough (my 6th photo, with the 7th an image of his facsimile signature) wrote in his tribute: "Julie Andrews is, quite simply, a phenomenon. For her work in the cinema, in the theatre and as a recording artist she has probably brought more joy to people than any other star of he generation. With her extraordinary amalgam of talent, glamour and dedication she epitomizes all that is best in show business. Because she was born in Britain and first found fame here, we like to claim her for our own, but in truth her luminous artistry knows no frontiers." Although only 20 pp., it offers an incisive overview of her life in the U.K. and as a major Broadway and film star in the U.S. Among her most definitive performances onstage were Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY, Princess Guinevere in CAMELOT, and the massively successful films MY FAIR LADY and MARY POPPINS. Of note, although she was great in CAMELOT opposite Richard Burton and King Arthur and Robert Goulet as Lancelot, Warner opted for proven movie star Vanessa Redgrave to star in the film. Disney wisely cast Julie in MARRY POPPINS, and her film career was launched, with Fox's THE SOUND OF MUSIC shortly following.

It's rare, with no other copies on eBay and none listed on Google, which has many links to short and long excerpts from the very successful awards ceremony. Fortunately, the star, who was born in 1935, is still alive and well. (FYI, the BAFTAs are essentially the U.K. Oscars.)

The Buy-It-Now price of $29.00 includes shipping with stiff cardboard backing in a padded envelope via media mail, which takes around 7 days with tracking, half that in SoCal.
