Finely bound in a beautiful Cosway-Style binding by Sangorksi & Sutcliffe, marked "Bound for Chas. J. Sawyer. Ltd. London" on the inside of the rear board.

Octavo, ix, 527 pages, finely bound in scarlet crushed morocco with ornate gilt decoration. Five raised bands, gilt lettering and decoration to spine. On the inside of the top board a large rectangular dark green morocco inlaid panel, with gilt decoration surrounding an oval gilt frame with a hand painted portrait of Milton under glass. Dark green morocco inlaid panel inside of the rear board. Double gilt-ruled board edges. All edges gilt. Green silk moire endpapers. Illustrated with black and white plates. Some minor discoloration, occasional scattered foxing, very minimal rubbing and wear, else in very good + condition.
