  • Bezeichnung: Oben in der Darstellung in einer von zwei Putti gehaltenen Kartusche betitelt, unten rechts signiert "J. Karrewün fecit.".

  • Beschreibung: Titelblatt zu dem Märchen "Histoire d'Hypolite, comte de Duglas", von Madame Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy. Peter Schenk der Ältere war ein deutscher Kupferstecher und Kartograf aus Elberfeld, heute zu Wuppertal. Um 1684 zog er nach Amsterdam und wurde Schüler von Gerard Valck, spezialisiert in Schabkunst; Reisen nach Leipzig und Berlin. Bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1718/19 gab er zahlreiche Karten und Bilder heraus.

  • Inscription: Titled at the top of the image in a cartouche held by two putti, signed at the bottom right "J. Karrewün fecit.

  • Date: 1786

  • Description: Title page to the tale "Histoire d'Hypolite, comte de Duglas", by Madame Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy. Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, now part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialising in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures.

  • Condition: Good condition. The sheet is browned due to its age, tiny puncture at lower right, the corners are trimmed. The decorative sheet makes a very good impression.
