The 2022–23 season marked a significant chapter in the history of VfL Osnabrück, as the club celebrated its 124th year in existence. Building on the momentum of the previous season, VfL Osnabrück embarked on their second consecutive journey in the second tier of German football.

 

Under the leadership of Chairman Manfred Hülsmann, the club saw strategic decisions and planning unfold throughout the season. The managerial responsibilities were entrusted to Tobias Schweinsteiger, who brought his expertise to guide the team through the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

 

The familiar surroundings of the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke served as the backdrop for the team's home matches. The stadium echoed with the cheers of passionate supporters as VfL Osnabrück aimed to make a mark in both the league and the DFB-Pokal.

 

In the league campaign, VfL Osnabrück demonstrated their prowess in the 3. Liga, finishing an impressive 3rd and securing promotion. The journey was not without its hurdles, but the team's resilience and determination shone through, earning them a well-deserved place in the higher echelons of German football.

 

Simultaneously, the club tested their mettle in the DFB-Pokal, navigating through the tournament with a focus on adding to their storied history. Each match brought its own set of challenges, but VfL Osnabrück embraced the opportunity to compete against some of the best in German football.

 

The Lower Saxony Cup presented another platform for the team to showcase their skills, reaching the 3rd round before bowing out. Despite the cup run coming to an end, it provided valuable experience and a chance for players to further gel as a unit.

 

Individual performances played a crucial role in VfL Osnabrück's success during the season. Ba-Muaka Simakala emerged as the leading goal-scorer, making a significant impact with 18 goals in the league. His contributions were not only vital in securing victories but also showcased the attacking prowess that propelled VfL Osnabrück to new heights.

 

As the season drew to a close on June 30, 2023, VfL Osnabrück could reflect on a season of triumphs, challenges, and growth. The journey from July 1, 2022, to the end of June 2023, etched a memorable chapter in the club's history, setting the stage for continued success in the seasons to come.
