This is for 3 original extremely rare 8 x 10 photos of
professional women wrestlers from the 1950’s. I have 5 different lots available.
This lot includes Therese Theis, Eva Lee and Ada Ash. All three women paved the
way for the wrestlers of today. Therese Theis’s career
would span over 500 matches from 1949 through 1963. Theresa would become the
wife of the Blonde Bomber, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens where Ray’s jealousy would
cut the marriage short. Eva Lee wrestled mainly in 1950 and 1952 with an
incredible record of 40 wins and 25 losses. An explanation of her short career
could be a match in Ohio in 1951. Jeanette Wolfe was an 18 year old adopted by
wrestling champion Mildred Burke and her husband Billy Wolfe to be groomed to
take Burkes championship when she retired. Jeanette would wrestle two times
during the show, which was not uncommon in early wrestling. In her first match
she would wrestle Ella Waldek who would defeat her with a body slam to the
canvas. Although complaining of headaches, she would wrestle her second match,
a tag team match with Eva Lee as her partner against Mae Young and Ella Waldek.
After an early unplanned tag to Eva Lee, Wolfe would hold on to the rope before
collapsing on the ring apron. After being rushed to the hospital, Wolfe would
die from both a blood clot in the brain and a rupture of her stomach. Ada Ash’s
career would begin by lifting horses, wrestling crocodiles and even wrestling
bears. Her wrestling career would span from 1948 to 1964. Ada is known as one
of the all time greats even though her wrestling career would be relatively
short. Three extremely rare photos in nice condition and all three for
one price. The photos will be sent bagged and boarded.
