In contrast to the 1936 issues, the 1948 cents dated 1947, is specially marked with maple leaf after date.
These 1947 Maple Leaf coins were made while the dies were being changed to show George VI was no longer Emperor of India, as the title of "Emperor of India" was dropped from the titles of the Crown, due to the India Independence in 1947.

The first Canadian cent was minted in 1858, production of the penny ceased in May 2012, and the Royal Canadian Mint ceased distribution of them as of February 4, 2013. However, the coin remains legal tender.
Like all Canadian coins, the obverse depicts the reigning Canadian monarch at the time of issue. Canada has included the effigy' of the reigning monarch on its coins since the Royal Canadian Mint started production in 1908.
The George VI Canadian Penny was struck by the Royal Canadian Mint from 1937 to 1952. The designer of this coin was T. H. Paget. The designer of the reverse was G. E. Kruger-Gray.
George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George, 1895 – 1952), was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 until his death in 1952. He was also the last Emperor of India from 1936 until the British Raj was dissolved in August 1947, and the first Head of the Commonwealth following the London Declaration of 1949.
