@ Fillmore West

San Francisco, CA

April 17-19, 1969

This poster was created and signed by Randy Tuten and marks the first-ever live appearance of The Band, which took place in April 1969.

The show was memorable for numerous reasons, but chief among them was a mysterious illness that kept lead guitarist Robbie Robertson from performing for a couple of hours.

Bill Graham saved the day by recruiting a hypnotist to work on Robertson. The idea worked, and the show—while late—went on as planned.
