An Extremely Rare Antique 19th Century Indian Folk Art Wooden Palanquin Model.

Highly detailed with a high ranking British Army Officer "Clifton" seen sitting inside with his name printed by his side.
He is sitting with his legs outstretched and with a cushion at his back and looks to
be supporting magnificent sideburns and a Red Military Uniform. Above him are fringe tassels to keep the
insects out above the door openings. On the inside roof and base are hand printed paper
coverings and on one side are sliding doors which open and close.

Condition:  The Model is lacking a pair of sliding doors to one side and one of the metal struts holding
the outside poles is missing plus other minor losses/damage gained through the passage of time
(Please see photographs for condition). I have left the model in original uncleaned condition, but it would benefit
from a clean.

An extremely Rare to find Palanquin Model with an occupant inside - I have never seen another!

It was quite possibly commissioned by the officer as a memento of his time in India.
