This evocative print is of a broken hearted mother seeing her son off to war.

The lad is dressed as a drummer boy and noticeably the mother is dressed in black perhaps already grieving; military service often ran in families so perhaps she's already lost another dear one, another son or even husband.

This melancholy sentiment is typically Victorian inspired no doubt by the decades of mourning the monarch herself endured.

The work also bears the line "It may be for years or it may be forever" a line from the popular 19th C. Irish ballad Kathleen Mavourneen.

The execution of the work is superb as is the quality of the printing, please study the images on zoom for general condition.

The framed and glazed print measures 63 cm x 48cm.

This obviously cannot simply be popped in the post and will require careful packing so p&p with Royal Mail/ Parcelforce will reflect this.
