Perhaps not the cheapest vellums money can buy but undoubtedly the best - clean, white, of an even thickness and no tiny holes. Many players prefer a calf skin vellum because they claim they produce a warm superior tone compared to a plastic head.

You must allow at least a 3" overlap when fitting a calf skin banjo head. A 14” vellum is suitable for banjos with an 11” or less diameter. A 15" vellum is suitable for banjos with a 12" head diameter.

We provide detailed and easy to understand instructions on how to fit a calf skin vellum.

A banjo vellum should be replaced at least every ten years. The older the vellum, the more the tone deteriorates.
