Extremely rare and richly illustrated Moerentorf Bible, Antwerp 1713

For centuries the Moerentorf bible was the standard for the Roman Catholics in the 16th and 17th century in the southern parts of the Netherlands. This is the first re-edition that dates from 1713.
Marmoured leather band with gilt spine ( with HB mark, bound by the famous Haagsche Stadhouderlijke Binderij ?)

Contains 6 precious folding maps ( Moxon Worldmap ) and over 150 full page engravings, numerous of which over double pages, by Mathias Scheits, Folkema, Jonckman & others. The engravings were printed as a serie by Halma in Amsterdam.

Excellent condition. Small restaurations on the original leather cover. ( Expertly rebacked) Incidently some browning, otherwise completely fresh.
The Moerentorf Bible in a exclusive binding like this, with well over 150 full page engravings and precious maps is scarce, and therewith a real collectors item.

In this version the verses of the chapters are lettered , as was the standard for a long time in early printed bibles - Folio format, 34 x 21,5 x 8 cm - Weight 2,6kg
