Georges Prêtre Saint-Saëns Poulenc SACD Hybrid TOWER RECORDS

A project commemorating the 100th anniversary of Praetre's birth. ''With Organ'', performed with Duruflé, is one of the best performances of this piece! Includes ''Carnival of the Animals'' and other songs with a variety of soloists. "With organ" is the world's first SACD! New and latest reprint from the home analog master tape. New Japanese explanation included

A project commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Georges Prêtre (1924-2017). A combination of "New World", a masterpiece recorded with the Orchester de Paris in 1970, which is only known to those in the know, and "Creation of the World", recorded in 1961, when he conducted the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, its predecessor. “New World” is a brilliant performance with a straightforward and clear expression, but with a unique sense of tempo and approach to phrases! In contrast, Milhaud’s performance makes use of his French sensibilities and truly approaches the essence of the song. This is one of the representative recordings. A must-listen to this reprint, which is sophisticated in terms of sound quality! For this release, the SACD layer and CD layer were mastered separately using a master digitized at 192kHz/24bit from the original analog master tape in the home country. Includes new Japanese explanation. This is a permanent preservation record.

Since the 1955 monaural Cluytens version with Suga from the Paris Conservatory of Music, there had been no stereo recording of the "organ included" version on the old EMI label with a major conductor. The appearance of the Pratre record in stereo while Cluytens was still alive is an interesting point in the history of recording. Why Cluytens didn't re-record in stereo (or why he couldn't re-record because of the Praetre disc) is now a matter of speculation, but stereo recording expanded many orchestral recordings. In this era, "with organ" became an important song for each label, and RCA's Munsch edition and DECCA's Anselmet edition were already famous. In that respect as well, this recording by Plattle shows the high expectations of EMI. However, EMI may have been planning to make recordings by Munsch after the founding of the Paris Orchestra. Due to his sudden death, this could not be realized, and we will have to wait for the Martinon edition recorded in 1975. Furthermore, Martinon recorded "With Organ" in 1970 on ERARO. I can only imagine that these circumstances may have had something to do with the subsequent acquisition of Martinon by EMI, and the recording of Saint-Saëns's complete symphonies at EMI at short intervals (the Martinon edition also featured an organ "with "is now on sale at this project TDSA185). The performance itself shows the masterful technique of Suga at the Paris Conservatory, and the tones of the time have been well reproduced this time. Of particular note is the appointment of organist Duruflé. At the time of recording, he was 62 years old and was a well-known composer. He also served as an organist at the church of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont, and recorded works such as Poulenc's organ concerto and Bach's works. You can see that it was a recording that challenged EMI at the time in a definitive sense. This reprint includes another album left by Praetre, ''Carnival of the Animals'' and Poulenc's Suite ''Typical Animals'' as a companion piece. ''Carnival of the Animals'' features a very high level of performance, featuring musicians such as Suga from the Paris Conservatory, as well as Ciccolini and Weissenberg. Enjoy relaxing yet tasteful and aesthetically pleasing performances with the highest sound quality.

In this series, the SACD layer aims for high resolution and a rich sound field with extended high frequencies and soft nuances, while the CD layer aims for a realistic tone that is pushed out with a solid sound. The CD itself has great potential, so please enjoy it as an SACD hybrid disc that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds. In addition, new Japanese text by Ryuichi Shibata has been included in the manual.
