British E.I.C., Madras Presidency Silver 1/2 Pagoda, Type II

British East India Company, the Madras Presidency,

Silver Half Pagoda (20.75g, 35mm), Madras mint 1808-1812 AD. 

Obverse: Nine-tiered Gopuram of a temple standing on stony ground, 18 stars (9-9) within inner field, buckled garter surrounds, 
no shading in buckle, denomination in Persian and correct English surrounds within, two stops within legend. 

Reverse: Figure of Vishnu central facing forward, cross of 16 beads to left, cross of 14 beads to right, beads absent below, 
triple beaded border and ribbon surrounds, within ribbon Telugu and correct Tamil legend, star above. Stevens-3.129 (L/VII). 

Some typical minor underlying hairlines, otherwise nicely toned and the design fully present, 

a popular type, near Very Fine or virtually so.
